England have won their second Pool A match of the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup, with a dominant 14-try hammering of Samoa. The Red Roses racked up a 92-3 triumph in Franklin’s Gardens, for a one-sided victory over the gutsy Pacific Islanders. England have qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament, with a statement making win ahead of the knock-out stages.

The scoring started early and failed to cease. Meg Jones got England on the board after just three minutes and added her brace mid-way through the first half. The Red Roses bagged seven first half scores, as Sarah Bern, Maddie Feaunati, Lark Atkin-Davies and Lucy Packer all joined the fray.
Jess Breach scored her 50th Test try upon her 49th cap in the first half, before completing a stunning hat-trick in the latter stages. Marlie Packer, Kelsey Clifford, Mackenzie Carson and Claudia Moloney-MacDonald also crossed over in the second half. Helena Rowland nailed 11 conversions and added a try of her own for a staggering personal points tally of 27, to set a new England record for a personal points haul in a Women’s Rugby World Cup match.
1. Meg Jones (England)
Meg Jones, who plays her club rugby at PWR team Ealing Trailfinders, was one of two players who kept her position in the starting XV. Jones came out of blocks all guns blazing bursting onto the scenes and putting England in the lead just 3 minutes in. She then adds another to her tally at the 16 minute mark scoring the Red Roses fourth try and securing the bonus point for England. Throughout the second half before she was substituted at the 64th minute she continued to show her incredible connection with her fellow backs working well with Jess Breach and Claudia Moloney-Macdonald.
2. Jess Breach (England)
What a game for Jess Breach! Breach, who plays her club rugby for Saracens in the PWR, like her fellow back Meg Jones, was only one of two players to remain in the starting XV and she came out the blocks fast and bagged herself her first try of the game, and 50th try for England on her 49th cap for the Red Roses.
The 27-year-old then continued her dominance and speed scoring another two tries in the second half at the 52nd and 73rd minute respectively. Will she be the tournament top try scorer? She’s currently has 5 tries to her name and sits just behind Canada’s Julia Schell who scored 6 tries in Canada’s opening game against Fiji.
3. Claudia Moloney-Macdonald (England)
Absolute Masterclass from Claudia Moloney-Macdonald. She was here there and everywhere on the pitch being an absolute nuisance to the struggling Samoan defence especially down the wing. Throughout the game the showed why she should be on that pitch, orchestrating play and creating great opportunities for her fellow teammates to get over that try line. Finally, after being the assister to some of England’s many tries, she got herself over that try line getting England there 14th and final try of the game in the 79th minute.
4. Helena Rowland (England)
What a return for Helena Rowland! Loughborough Lighting fly half returns back into the squad after an injury prevented her from partaking in the opening game in Sunderland last Friday. And what a performance from her at the stadium where she plays her club rugby, racking up a total of 27 points this game, scoring a try and converting 11 of the tries, including her own.
5. Harmony Vatau (Samoa)
The defeat for the Samoans against the Red Roses following their loss to Australia in the opening weekend means they will not progress past the group stages. Despite the heavy defeat to England, they did score there first and only points so far of the tournament. 21 year old Harmony Vatau stepped up to the tee and secured Samoa’s only points so far from successfully scoring a penalty kick.
